LIVING THE WORKS OF MERCY

The Corporal Works of Mercy are actions we can perform that extend God’s compassion and mercy to those in need. Volunteer or donate to Christian Service, Hope Connections, Highland Blessing Meal, Veterans’ Home.


1st week –Feb. 18- “FEED THE HUNGRY GIVE DRINK TO THE THIRSTY”

+PRAY for an end to world hunger and conservation of water.
+CONTRIBUTE to the Rice Bowl Program, alleviating world hunger.
+DONATE canned goods, boxed items to the St. John Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul– place items in food basket in the Church foyer. (by March 18)
+DONATE gift cards for the purchase of bottled water for the homeless. Give cards to Jo Ann or Ramel please.
(by March 18)

2nd week-Feb. 25-”SHELTER THE HOMELESS”

+SUPPORT Hope Connections’ day shelter for the homeless by donating toothpaste, toothbrushes,
shampoo, body wash, razors, shaving cream and laundry detergent. Being your donations to the basket in the Church foyer. (by March 18)


3rd week-Mar. 4-”CLOTHE THE NAKED”

+DONATE articles of clothing to Christian Service’s Clothing Closet or Catholic Charities’ Gabriel’s Closet


4th week-Mar. 11-”VISIT THE SICK”

+PRAY FOR, VISIT OR TAKE A MEAL to the ill or homebound.
+SEND A CARD to a homebound parishioner you have not seen at Mass
+VISIT those in hospitals & nursing homes.

+VOLUNTEER for “Meals on Wheels” through the Desoto Council on Aging or “Brother Lawrence” ministry through Christ Memorial Episcopal Church.

5th week– Mar. 18-”VISIT THE IMPRISONED”

+PRAY for those in prisons, the young and the old, and their families.
+ASSIST families of those who are in prison.
+HELP with diocesan committee ministering to the incarcerated.

6th week-Mar. 25-”BURY THE DEAD”

+PRAY for the souls in purgatory; request a MASS for those who have died.
+COMFORT a bereaved family by VISITING or  SENDING them a card.
