Dr. Cheryl White of LSU Shreveport is working to raise funds for the placement of a Louisiana state historical marker at the site of the original Holy  Apostles Church (Carmel) built by Fr. Jean Pierre in 1855. Because Fr. Pierre went on to Shreveport and became a victim of the 1873 Yellow Fever epidemic, this site needs to be marked as a potential site for future pilgrims, in addition to its
significant historical value as one of the first churches to be forged from the new Diocese of Natchitoches under
Bishop Auguste Martin.

Donations may be made to Rock Chapel in care of
St. Joseph Church PO Box 760, Mansfield, LA

The approx.. cost of the sign is $2200.00.
